Week 2: Auditions

After our initial mad scramble to make up for lost time, we were able to get mostly caught up – but we still lacked a few key elements. Specifically, we lacked actors, which obviously needed to be handled as soon as possible. In conjunction with other films, we ran a casting call to locate our actors. Although initially scary, it was a super awesome experience!

I started by generating some character sides, or at least attempting to. The copier went down and I ended up not being able to print as many sides as I would have liked. Despite this, various actors still got their hands on these sides and took interest in my characters, which was an exciting prospect. Despite this, I was incredibly nervous – I’d never been on the other side of the table in an audition, so it was a really strange (and scary) feeling to be the one calling the shots.

Despite this nervousness, auditions went extremely well. I found myself able to easily communicate with the actors, and in turn the actors seemed to resonate well with my feedback. Some really incredible talent came through those doors, and it was wonderful to see! One of the people who auditioned was actually the original RA that helped me when I was in this situation, which was really awesome.

It was a delight to work with all the talented folks who came through, and everyone was an absolute pleasure to work with. Picking final selections for each role was incredibly tough – it took almost a week to really lock everything for absolute between my producers and I. With some minor tweaks to scheduling and some back and forth with a few of our talent, we were on the cusp of being entirely cast.

Now, as of last night, we’ve secured all five of our actors, and we’ll introduce them in depth in a later post! It’s been a hectic few weeks for all of us producing this film, but we’ve been putting our noses to the grindstone and it’s paying off in spades. Thank you for your support, and I hope to see you at the premiere!
